Pacha Sydney at the Ivy

Known as one of the best spots for clubbing in Sydney, Ivy certainly did not disappoint.
It's conveniently located directly across from Wynyard station and also around a 10 minute walk from Town Hall. If it wasn't for the blaring music and lights it could easily be mistaken on the outside for any other office building. Entrance is through a large alley and the queue usually stretches around the complex, however there are separate lines for people paying with cash, card and for those who bought a ticket online, we bought a ticket online beforehand so it only took 20 mins to get in.

Ivy is massive inside, its a multi room club which is great for when you get sick of a particular room. There's the Main room up a massive flight of stairs which is no easy feat in high heels, this room is the biggest there with an open roof so smoking is allowed and there's a large bar to the left- this particular bar doesn't sell spirits, beers and wines only here. I'm not great at differentiating music genres but this room pretty much plays EDM/house music, special dj guests play here every other week or so. Pacha puts on a pretty amazing show with performers in crazy outfits coming out a lot during the night. However this room is always packed with people so don't expect to be able to move much(personal space does not exist here) and you'll be lucky to catch a breeze if you somehow make it to the centre of the room.

A large staircase in the main room takes you up to another level which features some sitting booths and another bar which (THANK GOD) sells spirits. Drinks are pretty pricey, a long island set us back $20. On the same level is a room called 'The Den' which is dark and very luxurious looking, in here are the vip tables which look out over the main room, another bar and some more sitting spaces, not really a place for dancing.

To get to the Pool club you need to take an elevator up a few levels, always a long line to get there as there's only 3 lifts but the wait is worth it. Stepping into the Pool Club was reminiscent of stumbling into a mini oasis, the pool looks amazing and the vibe here is great and relaxed. Music is like a toned down version of the main room but still dance-able. You can actually hear each other here so it's a good place to chat with friends or meet new people. There's 2 bars here and you can rent a cabana before-hand if you wish. Anyone is allowed to take a dip in the pool but make sure you have a change of clothes!

Hidden down to the left of the pool club is a set of stairs that to our surprise led to another room! Bathroom and changing facilities are here too. This dark room is the RNB/ hip hop room(my personal fave) which also has a bar at the back and some booths to sit on the side. The actual room is quite small and can get pretty packed but still feels less claustro than the main room.

Dress code: Formal/dressy attire with some men even wearing suits, some people dressed more casually,  jeans and tee shirts seem to be allowed.

Entry fee: For Saturdays, if you buy tickets beforehand online it's $32.90 first release, $38.00 second release, $43.10 third release and $27.70 if you're in before 9.  If you buy it at the door it can be more pricey, depending on the demand that night. Thursday & Friday nights have more affordable entry.

Cloak room: Yep! On level 2, approx $10 an item.

Ratio: There typically quite a few more guys than girls, maybe about a 3:1 ratio. The crowd here is a mix of many ethnicities and most people are between 20's-30's

Overall experience: Amazing venue with a high quality entertainment system(you'd expect that for the small fortune you pay to get in), great music and atmosphere although the expensive drinks are a bit of a downer. Definitely at the top of my list for clubbing in Sydney and would highly recommend if you don't mind the price!
